PGA TOUR Series-China announces remainder of 2019 schedule

Tour’s fifth season concludes in Hong Kong in October

BEIJING, China—PGA TOUR Series-China Series has already played eight tournaments this year. As the Series observes a short break before resuming the season, tournament organizers are already looking ahead to what promises to be a strong conclusion to 2019. The Tour announced six more tournaments that will make up the remainder of this year’s schedule, action beginning again in mid-July in Guangzhou and concluding the week of October 14-20 in Hong Kong at the season-ending Clearwater Bay Tour Championship.

The Series, in its fifth season, has already crowned eight champions in its first eight events, most recently last week at the Huangshan Championship when Zhengkai Bai became the first Chinese winner of 2019. In addition, players from six different countries have won as PGA TOUR Series-China continues to boast a roster featuring top up-and-coming players from China and the rest of the world.

“We have had a tremendous 2019 season to this juncture, and those tournaments we’ve already held will help set the stage for the final six tournaments on our schedule,” said Greg Carlson, PGA TOUR Series-China Executive Director. “We’re pleased that we can provide such high-level tournaments at world-class golf courses for our fans to watch these players both from China and the rest of the world pursue their professional dreams.”

Following this week’s Huangshan Championship, the Tour will take a one-month break before Nansha Golf Club hosts the Guangzhou Open for the first time, July 15-21. The Tour will remain in Guangdong Province the following week for the Dongguan Open, at Mission Hills Golf Club’s Greg Norman Course. While Mission Hills has hosted previous Tour events, including the inaugural PGA TOUR Series-China tournament, in 2014, players have never competed on the Norman Course designed by Norman, the former PLAYERS Championship winner, two-time major champion and World Golf Hall of Fame member.

The Tour will observe one more break following the Dongguan Open, this one for six weeks, before the final push of four events to conclude the season.

Action resumes with a tournament at a still-to-be-determined city and course September 9-15, followed by the Zhuzhou Classic (September 16-22) at Xiangshui Bay Golf Club in Hunan. The season draws to a close with back-to-back events in Macau and Hong Kong—the Macau Championship at Caesar’s Golf Club on October 7-13 and the Clearwater Bay Tour Championship on October 14-20 at Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club.

“We’re anticipating an exciting finish to this season. We’re all anxious to see how our Order of Merit plays out, who our Player of the Year will be and who will advance to the 2020 Korn Ferry Tour,” Carlson added. “All those questions will be answered during these final six tournaments playing off the incredible action we’ve already seen this season.”

As he spoke about the schedule, Carlson also noted the importance of developing new relationships with cities and courses that haven’t previously hosted tournaments, while also maintaining those close associations with existing events.

“While we truly enjoy year to year returning to courses that have hosted our events, it’s always noteworthy when we go to different courses and establish new relationships,” Carlson added. “That’s the case with these final six tournaments—a bit of the established to go along with the new.”
